A friend confided to me with shortness of breath on the phone, “I haven’t been desperate and afraid like this ever. My world is collapsing. What will I do?”
I do not have the answer to my friend but my listening and sharing comforting promises from the Bible calmed her.
Fear and danger is real. COVID-19, invisible enemy that threatens our physical being. What about our soul and spirit? Let us thoughtfully and prayerfully read the following verses:
“You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all your sins”(Colossians 2:13 NLT).
“I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself to me” (Galatians 2:20).
How have we been crucified with Christ? Our Christian life began when, in unity with Him, we died to our old life. (See Romans 6:5-11). In our daily life, we must crucify by faith our sinful desires that keep us from following Christ.
Legally, we have been reconciled with God (2 Corinthians 5:19) and are free to grow in Christ-likeness (Romans 8:29). And in our daily life, we have Christ’s resurrection power as we continue to fight sin (Ephesians 1:19-20).
Let the message of the cross motivates me and you to live wholeheartedly for Him. His resurrection power upon us will sustain us to pray boldly against COVID-19 with confidence.
