Does your inner attitude reflect your outside circumstances? I struggle to separate my inner feelings and attitudes from how I react to circumstances. What about you?
Be intentional about seeking the Word of God whenever feelings of depression or anxiety hit. His Word enlightens humanity’s emotions, intellect, and will. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27ESV).
All spiritual renewal begins with our faith in Jesus Christ; the Holy Spirit, in us as born-again believers, empowers us to experience spiritual renewal and respond to the truth of God’s Word. Feeling down or anxious is afeeling, but the Word of God assures, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”(Philippians 4:4-7 ESV).
Read the above verses at least three times, thoughtfully and prayerfully, until the message resonates in your heart and mind. His truth reveals that when personal matters, worries at work, at home, or at school hit us, we need to turn our worries into prayers and surrender what’s going on in our lives. Get support from a trusted family member or friend who will encourage you and pray for you. True peace isn’t found in positive thinking, the absence of conflict, or good feelings. It flows through His Holy Spirit as you ask and believe you receive peace.
A gifted prayer warrior testified that when he lacked peace and faced relational struggles, money issues, conflicting decisions, or any adverse circumstances, he went to a secluded place to praise and worship God as his source of provision and used Scripture prayers to answer his needs.
Faith-filled prayers anchored in God’s Word always realign our thoughts and feelings to God’s will for our lives. Let the peace of God reign in our hearts by turning our worries into prayer with thanksgiving and assurance that He has the best answer for us, no matter what we are facing. Obeying and loving God in faith in Jesus, empowered by the Holy Spirit, breaks any barriers to peace.
