Serving Jesus

“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4 NIV).

In 1999 before I resigned at the Cebu Bible seminary in the Philippines while preparing for my wedding with my precious hubby, during my morning prayer time, a deep longing to know what and where to serve.

In the Bible seminary office I looked for the Christian church directory to look for prospective congregation to join in the ministry a church’s name grabbed  my attention as I read the Christian church directory that led me to  pray, “Lord I would like to serve at Valley Christian Church.” The desire to serve was strong despite of my innocence which part of Utah, USA would be our residence.

We lived in the apartment in Salt Lake City, USA for less than three years close to my husband’s job. I served in the volunteer ministry at Southeast Christian Church kid’s ministry and International Bible Study Fellowship kid’s ministry.

One day, my husband’s foster mother told us that her sister’s parents-in-law were selling their home. We bought the home after less than a month negotiation.

My husband’s wiring in his chest broke after his two-year old heart valve replacement surgery. The surgeon had to re-wire his sternum. To my surprise, on the day before he was taken to the preparation room, the pastor and elder of Valley Christian Church prayed with us and requested help in the ministry.

Our home was seven-minute drive from Valley Christian Church. I was amazed how God answered my heartfelt prayers before I left the Philippines. In less than six months the preacher and a board member persuaded me to join their leadership and teaching ministry team. I served as a board member for almost eight years and experienced the joy of seeing lives changed among the children and adults that I served hand in hand.

God’s Word assured me, “We are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV).

As I looked back, I am convinced that God called me to serve at Valley Christian Church. Delays helped me to adjust with my new environment, my new role as a wife, and His best timing.

I am blessed and humbled by my beloved Pastor Kent Turpin’s comments, “Lilian you are a rock to me and our church family when we face the toughest challenges. Thank you.”

“Pastor Kent glory and honor belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ. I appreciate your affirmation.”

God fulfilled my desire to serve at Valley Christian Church for years and blessed me through its members love and support as my family away from home. God has amazing answers in store for you and me if we trust and lovingly serve Him!

Does God calls you to do something for Him?

God bless you and your loved ones. Feel free to contact me if you have any comments or prayer requests.
